New to rowing? The World Rowing Masters Regatta (WRMR) is for adult rowers aged 27+ and has over 400 individual events broken up by boat type and age category. This competition has been held at top venues across the globe, most recently Bled, Slovenia, and Copenhagen, Denmark. Last year’s regatta in Slovenia had over 6,800 entries and 4,700 individual competitors from 861 clubs.
As of this writing, early registration for 2018’s event has 109 entries from 66 clubs. If you are planning to race in the WRMR, early registration is open on RegattaCentral and will close June 17. Cost is $32 per seat, regardless of boat type. Fees will increase to $36 after June 17 until final registration close, August 19. Boat rentals are available for $36 a seat.
The most recent regatta bulletin contains all the details on the rules of racing, course maps, transportation, and local hotel accommodation. The race schedule is posted. Note all mixed events occur on Sunday.
Mark your calendars for the free opening ceremony on Wednesday, September 28 at 6 pm. If the World Rowing Championships opening ceremony was anything to go by, the WRMR’s will be a smash. The Circus Arts Conservatory will perform to highlight Sarasota’s circus history.
As the summer draws nearer, expect more information from Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center Association (SANCA) on the event. All updates are on the regatta website, wrmr2018.com.
