Sarasota Crew Men’s 8+ Crowned National Champions
Congratulations to all Sarasota youth rowers for such strong representation of talent at the 2018 USRowing Youth National Championships. Our area had more qualified boats than any other region sent to Lake Natoma in California.
Sarasota Crew’s Men Youth 8+ cruised to National Championship status, winning their final in 6:05.7. Second-place Oakland Strokes finished in 6:08.2. Crew dominated the time trial and semi-final events earlier in the weekend.
Additional Crew boats qualified for B-finals in the Men’s Youth 1x (1st), Men’s Youth 2- (3rd), Men’s Youth 4+ (4th), and Men’s Lightweight Youth 4+ (5th).
Boats in C-finals raced on Saturday. Sarasota Scullers’ Men’s Youth 2x won their final, the Women’s 2- placed second, and the Women’s 4x and Lightweight 8+ finished fourth. For Sarasota Crew, their C-final results include a win for the Women’s Lightweight 8+, and third for Women’s 8+ and Men’s Lightweight 8+.
USRowing no longer awards team national all-points trophies at the national level.
Many of these young men and women will continue their rowing careers at prestigious programs around the United States. We wish them the best of luck!
