Sarasota Dominates Youth State Rowing Championships
Congratulations to all Sarasota youth rowers for an outstanding performance in the Florida Scholastic Rowing Association state championships. The results are a testament to the depth of rowing success along the Suncoast.

Sarasota Crew’s youth program repeated as Sweep State Champions for the 8th time, sticking to their strategy of focusing on 8+ events. The boys had a particularly strong showing, with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Varsity 8+ plus the 1st and 2nd Freshman winning their events. On the girls’ side, the 2nd and 3rd Varsity, plus the 1st and 2nd Freshman, won their 8+. The 1st Varsity 8 placed second and the Junior 8+ third.

Sarasota Scullers successfully sent all their sweep boats to A-finals and won two gold medals: the Girls’ 2- and Lightweight 8+. They were excited to note they won the “George Alexandru” trophies for both events, honoring a Scullers coach that died in a tragic car accident.

The Florida State Rowing Championships are broken in two, two-day regattas during April. The first focuses on sculling events and the second on sweep events.

We wish all the rowers the best of the luck in the upcoming Southeast Youth Regionals, also taking place at Nathan Benderson Park on May 12. This will be a qualifying regatta for Youth Nationals, this year in California.
