Sarasota Masters Rowers Golden at Orlando Regatta

The annual Florida Masters regatta, hosted by Orlando Rowing Club, is always the first weekend in May. The camaraderie on the venue is unique to this adults-only event. It brings together the adult racing community in Florida. Adult racing is serious, but we all tend to know our competition pretty well and get along after the horn beeps.
Personally, I earned two golds and a silver this weekend. My favorite race was the Women’s 4x. Simply put: it was really, really good. It’s crazy how fast we were for having rowed together as a 4x so little. We even beat the Men’s 4x and Women’s 8+ times. While plenty of effort was involved, it felt effortless. I focused on swing and my stroke’s leg drive. I placed second in my single and very happy with the result. My Mixed 4x was a combination that had never been in a boat before. That race was neck-and-neck, and a great way to conclude a day’s hard work.
Our masters’ program has really grown under Coach Alex, who celebrated his birthday during the rowing festivities. He’s so well-respected among our team. He organizes and keeps everyone together. For proof, look at our Women’s Novice 8+. These ladies had a fantastic race experience, ended up beating entries in the regular Women’s 8, and earned gold! It’s a testament to enthusiasm and time on the water and Alex’s coaching.
The high point of the entire regatta was just seeing the team so happy. Everyone jumped in to help and wore smiles whether they medaled or not. Who could ask for more from a weekend spent with fast friends?
