Youth Southeast Rowing Regionals a Smashing Success
Sarasota teams qualified 15 boats for the 2018 USRowing Youth National Championships in California this past weekend at Nathan Benderson Park. The Youth Southeast Regional Championships qualifier had 49 clubs with 401 entries for two days of ultra-competitive racing.

This year was the first to use a time trial progression format for National qualification events. Development boats kept the heats-semis-finals progression as used in years past.

Sarasota Crew repeated at the seven-time regional champion. They qualified eleven boats for Youth Nationals.

Additionally, Crew won the Men’s U17 1x, Men’s U17 4x, Women’s U15 8+, Men’s U15 8+, Men’s 2nd 4+, Women’s 3V 8+, Men’s 3V 8+, gained silver in the Men’s U15 8+, earned third in the Women’s U17 8+, Men’s U17 8+, Women’s U17 2x, Men’s U17 2x, Women’s U15 8+, Women’s 2V 8+

Sarasota Scullers placed seventh overall in total team point totals, ranked second in the Women’s total points, and qualified three boats for Youth Nationals.

Qualifying teams will race the absolute best youth teams in the nation at Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, California, June 8-10. The national regatta is expected to draw 1500 athletes that placed during their regional champion regattas.
